Mac’s Brand Activation Team asked TBG to produce and install graphics for a large footprint, special “Hey Sailor” event at Mall Of America. This experiential event involved makeup makeover stations, super scale graphics and enter¬tainment. Because we had managed the design assets for “Hey Sailor” window displays, we were called upon to blow up the window set to a full event. The entire event package needed to be produced and installed in less than two weeks. Color matching was critical, on a variety of substrates from foamcore to gold foil.
A 30’ x 10’ wall was constructed as a backdrop to the event, with printed vinyl graphics mounted to the outside of the wall. 5 ft. diameter circle logos were printed on gold mirror foil and attached to the walls with twin stick tape. Critical color matching on this gold foil was successful.
3/16” Ultraboard wraps were printed and attached with Velcro to steel light frames to create the outer perimeter
of the event. 3/16” Ultraboard D.J. booth wraps were produced with mitered corners, with a large mirrored foil logo attached to the front.
Life-sized cut out figures of Vargas pin-up girls and varying sizes of giant waves were printed double-sided on 1/2” Ultraboard board and profile cut. The girls and waves fit snuggly into a MFD base with slots to hold them securely in place. A staggering of the elements in the base created the unique 3D effect.
The entire set was engineered to be pre-assembled to enable a quick and easy install and tear down. All pieces were packed in cases that were small enough to fit thru the doorways and on freight elevators at the mall. The 8 hr. installation took place overnight and was torn down and discarded after the 3-day event.
The event drew a crowd of over 100,000 people and was a big win for MAC. It went so well, they called us a week later and wanted to repeat the event in two weeks in Chicago.
